IPN
Evaluation (Impaired Practitioner
Network)
The
Intervention Project for Nurses (IPN)
was established in 1983 through
legislative action to ensure public
health and safety through a program that
provides close monitoring of nurses who
are unsafe to practice due to impairment
as a result of misuse or abuse of
alcohol or drugs, or both, or due to a
mental or physical condition which could
affect the licensee's ability to
practice with skill and safety.
The consultation is a comprehensive
psychiatric and addiction evaluation
requested by the IPN program for the
purpose of making recommendations to the
participant in regards to the need for
participation in the program, need for
treatment and appropriate level of care.
The
evaluator will provide guidance in
regards to the participant being capable
of returning to their field with or
without restrictions in their
functioning as a nurse. The
consultation or evaluation is not
confidential and at times information
from collateral sources including the
IPN program will be consider for
recommendations as well as different
modalities of drug testing.
At times the preliminary
recommendations will be discussed by the
evaluator with the participant however
final determination in regards to
requirements will be given to the
participant by the IPN program in all
cases.
Fees for services are paid by the
participant prior to the consultation.
